A glimpse on the Project

Big Data is one of the most important research challenges for the 2020 horizon. This paradigm relies on the collection of tremendous amount of data to support the innovation in the upcoming decades. According to the IDC group, the amount of world data will be 44 times greater in this decade, from 0.8 zettabytes to 35 zettabytes.

In the same period, the Gartner group expects the Internet of Things (IoT) to reach 26 billions of things connected to the Internet.

The coupling between the IoT and Big Data is strong. Unfortunately, there is no comprehensive approach to support the collection of data from sensors and their exploitation.

The SmartCampus project aims to equip the SophiaTech campus (Sophia Antipolis, France) with sensors collecting data about campus usage.

The goal of this project is to consider sensors deployed in buildings as an open platform to let final users (i.e., students, professors, administrative staff) build their own innovative services on top of the collected (open) data. The SmartCampus project started in September 2013.

Who is behind ?

SmartCampus project is an initiative of the I3S laboratory and the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis. It is currently being funded by the I3S laboratory.
